Serving at St. Clare’s

Scarf MakingAt St. Clare’s Episcopal Church, serving our neighbors – whether they live in our own community or across the ocean – is at the very heart of who we are as the People of God. We are Gathered, Changed, Sent. We are sent to tell the world about God’s love and forgiveness and to invite others to join us in a relationship with Jesus Christ.

Jesus said that we are to love God and love our neighbors as ourselves. Service to others is how we show our love for our neighbor – and how we show our love of God.

Our Current Service to Our Neighbors

Before we had a building to meet in, or before we even had a name, St. Clare’s was serving the community in Christ’s name. We began by partnering with Harvesters of Kansas City to serve children in the BackSnack program. Currently we:

  • Provide emergency food assistance to supplement the food pantry of the Spring Hill Multi-Service Center.  Call 913-967-9885 to schedule a pick up at the church after hours or on weekends.  This is intended to help someone in need as they schedule an appointment with the Multi-Service Center during regular business hours.
  • Collect water bottles, clothing and other needed items for Uplift, a ministry with the homeless of the Kansas City metro area. Members are seen making winter scarves for our homeless friends in the photo above.
  • Send members of St. Clare’s to distribute these items as well as nutritious food and to engage in friendly conversation with our homeless brothers and sisters each month.
  • Provide food to help fill the Spring Hill Multiservice Center pantry and collect school supplies for our neighbors who could use a helping hand in providing these vital materials to our community’s children..

Our Future Service

Our desire is to serve our community without neglecting God’s people who live in distant lands. In addition to our local service, we also want to choose a national and an international mission service project.  For example, the national mission project might be one that helps veterans and their families, or we might participate in disaster relief in the Gulf coast. For an international mission, we might help build a school in Haiti or provide medicine for the people of Kenya.

We began worshipping in Spring Hill, Kansas in May of 2010 and are currently spending a great deal of time and energy listening for where God is calling us to serve. Won’t you come and add your listening heart?

We Invite You

In Matthew 25, Jesus says that when we help others in need, we serve Him.  We invite you to join us here at St. Clare’s as we serve God and our neighbor. Come and help us discern where we are being called to serve. Come and make a difference!
